Missed-call text-back
Turn every missed call into a text conversation instead of a lost customer.
The problem
When you're on a job or with a client, calls go to voicemail and most callers never leave one. They just call the next business.
What it does
When a call to your business number isn't answered, the caller instantly gets a text asking how you can help, and you get notified.
- Import
missed-call-text-back.n8n.json. - Set TWILIO_* env vars and attach a Twilio Basic Auth credential to the SMS nodes.
- In Twilio, set your number's Voice 'Call status changes' callback to the Webhook Production URL (or in Quo/OpenPhone create a webhook for call.completed).
- The filter treats statuses no-answer, busy, failed, or a call with 0 duration as missed. Adjust if your provider uses different fields.
- Activate and test by calling and hanging up.
Credentials: each HTTP node uses a generic credential (Twilio = HTTP Basic Auth with Account SID/Auth Token; Resend/OpenAI = Header Auth Authorization: Bearer <key>). Values like $env.BUSINESS_NAME read environment variables. On n8n Cloud, replace them with literal text or n8n Variables ($vars).
Make / Zapier notes
Compliance notes
SMS consent (TCPA / A2P 10DLC): Only text people who gave you their number for this purpose (form checkbox, booking, or past customer relationship for transactional messages). Marketing texts need prior express written consent. Register your Twilio number for A2P 10DLC, include your business name, honor STOP/HELP (Twilio handles STOP automatically), and only send 8am-9pm recipient local time. Texting someone who just called you about their inquiry is generally treated as a transactional reply, but keep it to the inquiry (no promos).
Expected result
Recovers a meaningful share of missed callers who would otherwise go elsewhere; many get booked by text.
